Infiana Starts Into 2019 With Innovative Production Technology

Coater 6 Expands Thermal Coating Competencies

March 5th, 2019

Infiana marks the beginning of a new year by further cementing its technological leadership. With the start-up of “Coater 6“, Infiana’s newest coating line, and its ability to produce films with solvent-based silicon coatings on both sides, the company closes its last remaining technical gaps in this field. Infiana now has the ability to apply all possible combinations of thermally cured, solvent-based, and solvent-free silicon systems in just a single process step.

Increased Performance Through Drying System

This capacity is complemented by a highly efficient drying system specifically designed for thin films. "Silicone coatings are cross-linked and cured at high temperatures. This new type of dryer is defined by its increased performance, but simultaneously allows fine-tuned control of essential production parameters. This ensures our carrier films have excellent processability without reducing the degree of cure," states Stefan Herfurth, Chief Operations Officer at Infiana.

Further Improvements in Efficiency and Product Quality

Quality of the converted film is additionally improved by the integration of a high-performance cooling process that takes place immediately after the drying phase. Implementing this drying technology expands Infiana’s manufacturing competencies and its market-leading position in the production of silicone coated release films. “Our customers profit on two fronts. By introducing new technology, the quality of our products – and their products in turn – is further enhanced. Furthermore, we can coat more efficiently and reduce usage losses,“ notes Dr. Ingrid Sebald, Infiana’s Chief Commercial Officer.

Expanded Conversion Opportunities

Customers in the health care and pressure sensitive markets in particular gain new opportunities through Coater 6. "The technically demanding release liners commonly used for adhesive applications in these segments require continuous development and refinement. The addition of this facility noticeably expands our portfolio, giving us the ability to even better serve our customers needs," adds Sebald.

Improved Roll Change Process Optimizes Production

Additionally, new winding technology creates a noticeable reduction in material and time losses during roll changes. "A semi-automated transport system is responsible for loading and unloading rolls at Coater 6. This considerably reduces the amount of physical strain placed on our employees. The rolls – which can weigh up to 1800 kilograms – can now be moved with a motorized transport wagon," reports Michael Fürst, Production Manager at Infiana.
